Coney Island Seahorse by Laura MurrayLess than 10 days to go for Drums On Paper on November 7, we met with Laura Murray to print her work for the show. After a couple of test prints, we were both very happy with the results. Laura’s limited edition of 10 will be hand finished with glitter. She took the edition to her studio for the final touches. They are all unique. Don’t miss them.

Here is Laura Murray’s bio:

Laura Murray was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK. She is a multi-media artist focusing on the relationship between social and natural histories. She explores these themes by combining traditional mediums (paint, graphite, etc.) with organic materials (dirt, hair, egg shells, insects), emphasizing the tension between illusion and reality.

Highly influenced by memories of growing up in the Midwest, her work often showcases imagery from nature; animals are reoccurring subjects, as are children. By creating works that explore the connections between animal domesticity and primal feral instinct, she seeks to unveil inner truths of personal identity.

Laura Murray received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2012, and has participated in artist residencies in both Oklahoma and New York. She completed the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program in Staten Island in 2013, and was awarded the Edward & Sally Van Lier Visual Artist Fellowship Grant. She was awarded her first solo show at the Newhouse Gallery (Staten Island, NY), and has been in select group exhibits at Family Business Gallery (New York, NY), 440 Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), Fireproof Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery (Oklahoma City, OK), and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
